Abstract

Women’s political empowerment in Pakistan remains a significant issue in democratic governance, gender equality, and institutional development. Despite constitutional guarantees, reserved seats, and legal reforms, women continue to face barriers to meaningful political participation and decision-making. This study examines women’s political representation, institutional challenges, and policy prospects in Pakistan. It explores the role of political parties, electoral institutions, socio-cultural norms, economic inequalities, and patriarchal structures in shaping women’s participation in politics. The study adopts a qualitative research approach based on secondary sources, including academic literature, constitutional provisions, government reports, and policy documents. It also investigates the gap between descriptive representation and substantive political empowerment, emphasizing women’s influence on legislation, policymaking, and governance. The study argues that sustainable empowerment requires stronger institutional accountability, inclusive party structures, political education, financial support, and effective implementation of gender-equality policies. It concludes that meaningful women’s political participation is essential for strengthening democratic institutions, representative governance, and inclusive development in Pakistan.
